How to find the Best CBSE School in Ahmedabad?

How to Choose the Best CBSE School in Ahmedabad: A Parent’s Checklist
Admission Guide For Parents

Best CBSE School in Ahmedabad: every school will tell you it is the best. We’d rather help you check for yourself. Choosing a school is one of the biggest decisions a family makes, and it’s easier when you know what to look for and which questions to ask.

This is the checklist we’d use if we were parents choosing a school today. Use it for every school on your shortlist, including ours.

What “Best” Should Mean for Your Child

No ranking can tell you which school is best for your child. A child who thrives on structure may need a different school from one who needs room to explore, and a school that is perfect for one family can be a poor fit for another.

So instead of searching for “the best”, look for the best fit. Decide what matters most to your family, then compare schools on the same points.

A simple method: shortlist three schools, visit each one, and score them on the same points below. Comparing facts is far easier than comparing impressions.

Check the CBSE Affiliation Yourself

Affiliation is the one thing you can verify in five minutes, so do it before anything else. Ask the school for its affiliation number, then look it up on CBSE’s SARAS portal. Check four things:

  • The school name and address match what you were told
  • The affiliation period is current
  • The level of affiliation: secondary (up to Class 10) or senior secondary (up to Class 12)
  • Whether the classes you need are covered, so your child doesn’t have to change schools after Class 10

For transparency, here is ours. Aavishkar School’s CBSE affiliation number is 430319, and our record on SARAS shows senior secondary affiliation for the period 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2031. We opened in 2015.

CBSE also requires every affiliated school to publish a mandatory public disclosure on its website, covering details such as staff, infrastructure and fees. If a school can’t show you one, ask why.

Teachers and Class Size

Your child will spend more hours with teachers than with anyone outside the family, so this matters more than any building. Ask about:

  • Teacher qualifications, and how many are trained specifically for the classes they teach
  • How long teachers typically stay. Frequent turnover is a warning sign
  • Section size and the student-teacher ratio
  • Whether the class teacher knows each child by name and can speak about them as an individual

If the school allows it, sit in on a class for a few minutes. Notice whether students feel comfortable asking questions, and how the teacher responds to a child who gets something wrong.

At Aavishkar, our teaching staff are listed on our website, and we’re happy to introduce you to them when you visit.

Safety and Wellbeing

A child who feels safe learns better. These are questions worth asking every school:

  • Who enters the campus, and how is it controlled?
  • How is school transport managed, and does a staff member travel on each bus?
  • Is there a valid fire safety certificate, and can you see it?
  • What happens when a child falls ill or is hurt during the school day?
  • Is there a clear policy on bullying, and who do children go to if they’re worried?

Pay attention to how staff answer. A school that has thought carefully about safety will answer these questions easily and without defensiveness. Our fire safety certificate and other mandatory documents are available on our website.

Academics Beyond Marks

Ask for board exam results from the last three years, but read them carefully. Look at how the whole class performed, not just the toppers. A school that only talks about its highest scorers is telling you about a handful of children.

Then ask the questions that results can’t answer:

  • What happens when a child falls behind in a subject?
  • How often do parents receive feedback, and is it more than a report card?
  • How does the school assess learning during the year, not just at exam time?
  • Is there room for sports, arts and activities, or are they the first thing dropped before exams?

If your child is approaching the board years, ask how the school prepares students for them. CBSE’s assessment pattern has changed, and we’ve explained it in CBSE’s New Assessment Pattern: What Class 10 Parents Need to Know. Our month-by-month Class 10 timeline shows how we think about supporting students through that year.

Facilities That Actually Matter

Labs, a library, playgrounds and technology all count, but judge how they are used, not how they look in a brochure. Ask to see the science lab and the library on an ordinary day. Are they in use, or just labelled?

Then look at the everyday basics, which tell you a lot about a school’s care for children:

  • Clean, working washrooms
  • Safe drinking water
  • A hygienic canteen, if there is one
  • Outdoor space where children can actually play

You can see an overview of our infrastructure, amenities and technology on our website before you visit.

Fees and Transparency

Ask for the full fee breakdown in writing: admission fee, annual charges, tuition, transport, uniform, books and any activity or technology charges. Ask when fees are reviewed and what the refund policy is.

In Gujarat, fees of self-financed schools are regulated through the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC), so ask to see the school’s FRC fee letter. A school that is confident about its fees will show you without hesitation. We publish our fee structure and FRC letter on our website, so you can review them at home before you speak to anyone.

Distance and the Daily Commute

A school that looks perfect on paper can become tiring in practice if the journey is long. Children who spend a lot of time on the road lose sleep, play and homework time. Ask which areas the school’s transport covers, what the pick-up times would be for your home, and how long the ride takes in peak traffic.

We are on the S.P. Ring Road near Ognaj Circle. If you’re not sure whether our transport reaches your area, ask us and we’ll tell you honestly, even if the answer is no.

Questions to Ask on a School Visit

Visit on a normal school day if you can, not only on a prepared open day. Take your child along, and keep these questions handy:

About learning

“How do you support a child who finds a subject difficult, and one who finds it too easy?”

About wellbeing

“Who does a child talk to if they’re anxious, being teased or struggling with exams?”

About communication

“How do you keep parents informed, and how quickly will someone respond if I have a concern?”

Ask your child

“How did it feel walking around? Could you see yourself here?” Children notice things adults miss, such as whether students look relaxed or tense.

Common Mistakes Parents Make

  • Choosing based on rankings or claims such as “best school in the city”, including ours. Check the facts instead
  • Judging by the building and the brochure alone
  • Visiting only once, on a day the school has prepared for visitors
  • Ignoring the commute until after admission
  • Accepting a verbal fee quote with nothing in writing
  • Leaving the child out of the decision

Frequently Asked Questions

A few things parents ask us before they apply.

Which documents should I ask a school to show me?

Ask for the CBSE affiliation number and check it on SARAS, the mandatory public disclosure, the written fee structure with the FRC letter, and the fire safety certificate. A transparent school will have these ready.

When should I start looking for admission?

Earlier than most parents expect. Many schools begin enquiries well before the academic year starts, so start your search several months ahead, visit your shortlist, and confirm admission dates with each school directly.

Is CBSE better than a state board?

Neither is better in itself. CBSE follows a uniform national curriculum, which can help families who may move between cities, and it is widely followed for national-level entrance exams. The right choice depends on your child, your plans and the quality of the school.

Do board results alone show a school’s quality?

No. Results show only one part of the picture, and averages across the whole class say more than a list of toppers. Look at them alongside teaching quality, support for struggling students, safety and how your child feels on a visit.

Can I visit Aavishkar before applying?

Yes. Fill out our admission enquiry form and our team will get in touch to arrange a visit. We encourage parents to bring their child, and to ask us anything on this list.
